Pink!

Youpi, me revoilà, j'existe encore!

----------

Hey, I'm back, I still exist. Yay! And I'm back with a couple fun sews, far away from the back-to-school seriousness that's been popping up everywhere. Seriousness will have to wait, at least for 3 more days. haha.
We're headed up to Lille (North of France, 1st French stop of the Eurostar from London, if you were wondering) for a week end of partying and playing music in the streets with a group of friends dressed up in pink. Pink is awesome.

My Hong Kong shipment containing all my stuff (including my beloved sewing machine & fabric & patterns... oh lord, let's not think about it) is still stuck in London for god-knows-what-reason ("Oh what? You're sleeping on a tiny camping air mattress until your shipment arrives? Oh well trust me, I don't give a fuck, but I'll call you back in about 2 weeks to let you know when we can schedule a delivery. No, no, we don't deliver when you need it, we deliver when it fits our plans" well thank you London lady). So, I sewed these on my mother-in-law's cheap cheap machine. Over one week end. It was a bit of an intensive sewing week end, but it ended up ok!

The dungarees (is it the same as overalls?) is the Turia pattern by Pauline Alice, and the shorts are the well known Jededhia from Thread Theory. I had never sewn any Pauline Alice pattern, and I found this one delighting. It comes together quickly, with no major struggle, and the instructions are very clear. The only thing I'd change on a future version would be some of the finishing. In a few places you just turn the fabric under and topstitch twice. It looks fine, and I'm sure it will also hold up fine, but I like pretty finishes, so yeah, I'll change that. Nothing major. The rest of the seams are enclosed seams (is that the technical term?!) and they are greaaaat. I love them! I'm a french seam nerd, so this new to me type of impeccable finishing just makes me happy :)

Now that summer is almost over, I'll probably wait until next year for the next version, probably in some kind of chambray. Can't wait, I love dungarees. hehe. As a kid, it was my absolute favorite item of clothing. But then, fashion moved on to stretchy very tight dungarees, gross. Why would you need the suspenders part if the pants part can't go down anyways?! I'm so glad classic dungarees are back!

I was looking for pink (if you hadn't noticed...) and the only fabric I found was in the home deco section. And since it's to dress up, I really didn't care. And it probably would make some good real life clothing too, that fabric is pretty nice! Oh, and best of all, I only bought 1meter. And after cutting my dungarees out, I realized I probably had enough left over for a pair of shorts for my husband. Yep. That fabric was 2.80 meters wide. Talk about awesome. 10 euros for 2 garments, happy me.

Sewing the pair of shorts was fine too. I just found the instructions to be a bit verbose. But it might have been because I was in a hurry. So I followed them for the pockets and the fly, and then I just made it up. By now, I know how to sew some legs and a waistband! This means I could change up the way the inside seam of the waistband is finished, I was in no mood to make some biais tape, and I hate the way it looks on a waistband, so I just turned it under. Nice finish.

That's it, a couple of -very pink- quick enough to sew items that make me happy!
